Rev. Sharyn Cosby, M.Div., has been named coordinator of RoseRock’s “We Honor Veterans” program. In this role she will organize the hospice’s efforts to enhance end-of-life care for Veterans in northeastern Oklahoma.
“America’s Veterans have made many sacrifices to serve our country,” Sharyn said. “RoseRock’s Veterans program will help ensure that each of our Veteran patients gets a Hero’s Farewell.”
Lifelong Interest in Veterans
Rev. Cosby completed her Clinical Pastoral training at Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center in Muskogee. She has also earned designation as a Certified Clinical Chaplain through the National Association of VA Chaplains. Her personal experience with the armed services includes a childhood as an “Army brat” along with years of experience working in the Veteran’s Administration’s ministry. Rev. Cosby also serves as RoseRock’s Bereavement Coordinator.
Hospice Makes Significant Commitment to Veterans
RoseRock has made a significant commitment to serving Veterans. Every member of the RoseRock hospice team has been trained to identify and understand the unique needs of Veterans at the end-of-life. RoseRock has expertise in assisting Veterans in identifying the military benefits they may be entitled to. The RoseRock hospice team routinely finds ways to acknowledge the contributions of our Veterans and to tangibly honor Veterans at the end-of-life.
As part of this important work, RoseRock has joined other community leaders in advocating for the needs of Veterans and has recently been appointed to serve on the Mayor of Tulsa Veteran Advisory Council, a broad-based effort to bring members of the military and veteran service organizations together to address the needs of soldiers in our community.
“It is inspiring to be a part of this Council,” said Penny Jones, Director of Business Development, and RoseRock’s representative on the Mayor’s Council. “It’s a diverse group that includes the Veterans Administration, health care providers, educators and Veterans. Working together we have the chance to significantly improve Veteran services.”
In addition to its program of care for Veterans, RoseRock also sponsors the Vet-to-Vet Volunteer Program pairing Veteran Volunteers with hospice patients who are Veterans. Veteran Volunteers have the unique ability to relate and connect with Veteran patients and their families.
