When it comes time to choose a hospice provider for your loved one, it can be difficult to know what criteria to use. You’ll likely get a few recommendations from the primary care physician, but how can you decide which of the suggestions is right for you? The best way to find the right hospice for your loved one is to ask the right questions.
Here are three questions that will help you get the information you need to make your decision.
- Is the medical team certified in palliative care? This certification isn’t required and it’s not likely an entire team will be certified, but having a few certified team members is a good sign the provider is experienced and knowledgeable.
- How do they create care plans for their patients? Every patient is different and will require a different approach to meet their needs. It’s important the hospice you choose can create a customized care plan to meet the needs of your loved one.
- What services do they offer? Medicare sets a standard for basic services hospices have to offer, but that doesn’t mean hospices are limited to these services. RoseRock Healthcare, for example, offers support care for actively dying patients to have companionship through the night so family caregivers can sleep knowing their loved one won’t die alone. This service level isn’t required by Medicare, but we still choose to provide it.
These three questions will give you a lot of helpful information, but there are many other questions that are worth asking. It’s important to remember that it’s okay to ask as many questions as you want. If you have any questions about hospice care, call RoseRock Healthcare.
